This workshop will be held August 5-10, 2018 at the Deer Creek State Park Lodge and Conference Center, Mt. Sterling, OH. USA.
Transportation to and from the airport
Shuttles:
2 shuttles are scheduled from the airport to Deer Creek for on Aug. 5th (2 pm and 6pm) and 2 shuttles from Deer Creek to the airport on Aug. 10th (11am and 2pm).
For arrivals (from airport to conference):
- If you have a spot reserved on one of these shuttles you should have heard from Jennifer Koch via email. There is still room for additional passengers on each of these shuttles, so if you haven’t already been contacted about this but you would like to take one of these shuttles, please email your flight number, arrival time and cell number to Jennifer ASAP (jkoch@fs.fed.us).
- If by chance your flight is delayed and you miss the shuttle at 2 pm, call Cardinal Transportation 614-274-2500 and let them know you would like to be changed to the 6 pm shuttle. If you happen to miss both shuttles, please see information below to schedule a taxi or uber to take you to Deer Creek.
For arrivals (from airport to conference):
- On August 10, shuttles will leave at 11am and 2pm and arrive at 12pm and 3pm to the airport. We will post a sign-up sheet at the meeting as well as a ride share sheet for those looking to share rides outside of these shuttle times (taking uber or a taxi).
Taxi:
For those of you whose flights don’t arrive until after the 6 pm shuttle (or whose earlier flights have been delayed until after 6 pm) you can call a taxi or schedule an uber.
- There are two main taxi services in Columbus, Yellow cab 614-444-4444 and Blue cab 614-236-4444 (cost ~$90).
- For more information on uber, see https://www.uber.com/airports/cmh/. You will be required to download the uber app onto your cell phone. Their online estimator estimates a cost of $58 to $76 for up to 4 passengers or $95 to $125 for up to 6 passengers
Ride Share:
We will post a ride share sheet for those looking to share rides outside of these shuttle times (taking uber or a taxi) to return to the airport post-conference.
Facility:
This facility is well suited to our needs with 12,000 square feet of function space, 10 function rooms, a grand ballroom, and full service catering. In addition, its 135 Lodge rooms and cabins will further add to the close-knit environment of this workshop.
This center is located 30 minutes south of Columbus and is approximately one hour from the John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Click here for a map.
Meeting attendees are encouraged to reserve their rooms early, as there is a limited number of rooms being held at a special group rate. Reservations can be made by calling 740-869-2020 and requesting to reserve a room under the International Forestry Workshop block that is being held at the Deer Creek Lodge the rate of $91 USD per day plus a $2 technology fee and applicable taxes (currently 7.25% sales tax and 6% bed tax totaling 13.25%).
Reserve your lodging by Feb 1, 2018, there are no other lodging options in the vicinity.
Our block of rooms is now full. You can still call Deer Creek (740-869-2020) or email Becky Penn bpen@greatohiolodges.com to see if there are any rooms left, but last checked availability was limited to deluxe rooms (cost ranging from $239-$279 a night) or cabins ($259 a night, no air-conditioning). There may also be cancellations, so it is always worth checking!
